NOT SO MUCH SIMPLE, AS EXTREMELY ELEGANT
Glass is an 17-story residential tower, and it is situated on the southern tip of Miami Beach, in the South of Fifth Street neighborhood. The building is a response to its site, context and environment. The tower is designed to dematerialize as it rises, with its exterior almost entirely disappearing in to the atmosphere due its compositional use of fritted, patterned glass.
Glass reflects, captures and abstracts the natural landscape of sand, see and sky, while retaining the essence of place through its architectural design, its materials, surface textures and tonal color.
A project that changed hands – and names – over the course of two decades was christened for the final time as “Glass” by architect Rene Gonzalez, according to exMiami. In May 2013, new renderings revealed a façade of glass panels. Construction began in December 2013. Plans reportedly call for the 18-story tower to have just 10 full-floor residences with open floor plans, 10-foot ceilings, 360-degree views and eight-foot-deep wraparound balconies. Amenities include an on-site estate manager, private beach club, and a two-story spa and pool deck.
