Coral Gables

CORAL GABLES, MIAMI

Coral Gables is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, located to the south from Downtown Miami and boarding with Coconut Grove. As the latter one Coral Gables was among the first planned communities in South Florida. Its history dates back to 1920s, when a real estate developer George Merrick started planning and building communities in this area.

Coral Gable got its name after Merrick’s boyhood home made of coral-like oolite having a gabled roof. The architecture of the city refers to Mediterranean Revival style that was typical for that period of Florida’s construction. This style draws influence from European design, and decorated plazas with sculptured fountains add to the distinctive charm of the area. It is a true gem of South Florida!

The location of this neighborhood allows easy access to the main destinations: Miami, South Beach, and Miami International Airport – all of them lie 15-20 minutes away.

Coral Gables Entertainments

Coral Gables is the picture of perfection, from its flawless building facades to its manicured gardens – you will struggle to find a cleaner place for living. As one of the oldest areas it assembled US most known historic landmarks.

One of them is the famous Venetian Pool opened in 1924 as “Venetian Casino.” This luxury public pool occupying 4 acres of land features waterfalls and caves carved from limestone. In 1981, Venetian Pool was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and is the only pool listed on the register.

The other is the historic award-winning Biltmore Hotel. The hotel was built in 1926 and remained a tallest building in Florida for couple of years. Later, the building served as a hospital and a University of Miami Medical School, until it was brought back to the original purpose. In 1996, it was nominated a National Historic Landmark. One of the special things of the hotel is a 12,000 sq.ft. full service Spa which is a member of the Leading Spas of the World.

Coral Gables is also known for its beautiful natural parks. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is a genuine oasis and the only real garden in Miami-Dade County. It has rich collection of rare plants and a wonderful place to spend family weekends.

You can find nowhere as many art galleries as here (more than 30!). And the outdoor shopping centers on Miracle Mile and the Shops at Merrick Park will pleasantly surprise you with a great variety of posh shops and exclusive dining areas.

Coral Gables Infrastructure

Coral Gables has its own free trolley riding on one route. Furthermore, the residents use Metrobus and Metrorail public transportation systems.

This Beautiful city is a home for the University of Miami ranked in the top tier of national universities. It has no lack of public and private schools, healthcare facilities (Baptist Hospital of Miami is the biggest one), banks, youth centers, grocery stores and farmers markets. All was carefully planned to meet the local’s and the visitor’s most essential requirements.
